The Bureau of Public Information responds to all media and general requests for information about the agency and its programs.

The bureau also coordinates Freedom of Information requests, publishes certain internal and external agency publications, and contributes to the accountability report.

One major role of the bureau is the coordination of the state's Medical Care Advisory Committee, the entity that oversees the Medicaid program in South Carolina. 

The bureau coordinates fund-raising and extra curricular activities sponsored by the Employee Activity Committee such as the annual United Way campaign.  It also publishes the agency's monthly newsletter, Communique, and supports all bureaus with special projects containing a public relations aspect.
